I know very little about professional sports and probablly even less about professional athletes but when I heard an ex-NFL player Wade Davis, came out I thought that was worth investigating.
Davis recently came out and in an interview with CNN he shared that he wanted to known as a football player and not as a gay person. I kind of get that, I want to be known as a educator and not an international male model...lol.
Davis shares "I don't believe most NFL players have a problem with having a gay teammate. I do get the feeling they have to protect who they are," Davis said. "At the end of the day it's a job, so all of these players have to make sure they're in a certain type of light."
Former teammate Jevon Kearse, shared that he would not have had an issue playing along side Davis. Kearse goes on to share, "I know there have been a lot more than just Wade," Kearse said. "It's just becoming more acceptable, which is a good thing so they can come out and not feel secluded."
Davis is enjoying his new out status and works the Hetrick-Martin Institute, which serves lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender youth in New York City.
I say good for him and score one more for the team...smile.
