Rupauls Drag Race Winner: Tyra Sanchez

Hey guys after a robust season of gowns, lipstick, wigs and shade it is official, Tyra Sanchez is the winner of Season 2 of Rupaul's Drag Race.  I have to admit the "girls" this season were much cuter boys than last season, especially Tyra.

Tyra is a cute guy but when he transforms Miss Thing is absolutely fierce!

Tyra did not start out as the favorite.  She was definitely not getting any Miss Congeniality awards.  But that is ok because fierceness always trumps being nice. 

I love this show it is genius of shameless promotion for Rupaul.  Sell the product Diva!

Hot Guy of the Week: Travis Lee

Hi Guys I know it has been crazy but I am back on track.  It is Tuesday and you know what that means it is Hot Guy of the Week time. 

This weeks hot guy is Travis Lee.  Travis is 24, 6'4", 230 lbs, African-American, representing natural hair and locks. 

Travis was on a site Supershoots.net as a model and talent. 

The other thing I found intriguing about this guy is that he hails from the Iowa/Chicago area.  You guys know I went to graduate school in Iowa and if someone this good looking was there I think I would still be in the Mid-west...LOL.

Wii Fit Plus Don't Like Big People

Like many of you I am trying to get in shape for the summer, swimsuit season you know.  So,I have spent the last few months stalking the Wii Fit Plus.

I have heard all about the enthusiastic stories from co-workers and friends of all the fun and excitement the new Wii Fit Plus offers. I was determined to become part of the new Wii Fit Plus craze, minus headband and leg warmers.

Like I said I stalked the Wii Fit for several months.  I was like a big game hunter on safari.  I scavenged the aisles of Target, Best Buy and Wal-Mart looking for any sign of the elusive Wii Fit Plus.  I almost had one a few weeks ago but a tug of war between me and another patron resulted in a robust and exhausting struggle. I lost, who knew a woman in her eighties could muster the "crack" strength when pushed to the edge.

I was in Wal-Mart recently on some random search for some random item when I saw a Wii Fit Plus out of the corner of my eye. Like a lion in the tall grass, I went into total stealth mode. I cautiously approached one of the employee's and through clenched teeth whispered, "Excuse me I would like to purchase a Wii Fit Plus, can you help me please?" 

I nodded towards the glass case raising my eyebrows to emphasize that this need to be a discreet exchange.  The associate smiled and I confidently begin to turn towards the glass case when I hear a rather loud exchange , "Theresa you got your keys? I need to get a Wii out of the case."

I felt like one fool Lion just messed up a perfectly good kill and we were all going to be hungry for the next few days.

A woman next to me heard the exchange and immediately took an interest.  I followed the associate to the case shadowing his every move until I claimed my prize. I finally captured the elusive Wii Fit Plus?

Taming my new electronic pet was another matter.  I eagerly raced home and followed the instructions and soon had my Wii Fit Plus synced and ready to go.  I changed into my work out gear eager for my first session.

I was immediately put off by some of the assessment process, especially the scale.

I am a 6'3" and weigh about 215 which is good for a man my height, according to the Wii my ideal weight should be 172 lbs.  That would be my ideal weight if I were a 19 year old, twink, American Idol, contestant with an eating disorder. 

I have had some pretty tough trainers but I don't think anyone of them have been as brutally honest as the Wii Fit Plus.  I stalked this thing for months only for it to tell me I am old, overweight and balanced challenged.  It is like being heckled by a virtual Eddie Murphy.

The Wii Fit Plus does not just say your overweight it animates and enlarges your avatar, as if you need a visual reference to accompany the verbal abuse. 

The other thing is that it makes this very disturbing whimpering noise when you get on the platform.  A noise like you are hurting it with your considerable bulk.  Again with the insults.  

Not one to be easily defeated I sample a few of the balance, strength and various exercises, only to become increasingly frustrated.  I finally come across a "Zen" game where you are to sit cross legged on the platform retaining good posture until the burning candle is "balanced".

I figure I have mastered sitting on my butt and watching TV, so this should be a breeze.  Again I am not a big dude but I could not get my butt on the platform.  They need a Lane Bryant "Wii Fit Plus Size" for those of us with a little more junk in the trunk.  This was the last indignity!

My relationship thus far with my Wii Fit Plus has been adversarial.  I am a pro in baseball, tennis and bowling on the Wii Sports but I still get no love from the Wii Fit Plus. I feel like I am in an abusive "Ike Turner" relationship with my Wii Plus.

I watch my diet, work out and even worry about how I look before I get the nerve to face the Wii Fit Plus, hoping today will be the day he notices my hard work and commitment. But like a controlling lover that is hell bent on ruining my self-esteem they offer no words of encouragement. 

I tell you one more insult and I am ready to bust a virtual cap in the behind of my Wii Fit Plus.

Hot Guy of the Week: Brooks Saible

Hey Guys I found this weeks hottie, Brooks Saible,  while scanning some of my favorite sites.  I still cannot reveal my sources...lol. 

I could not find much on Brooks Saible but his face and body pretty much say it all. 

I like the intensity of his stare not to mention the sexy lips.  

I had to look closely to make out the bible reference, like staring at his abs was hard work...laugh. 

I am not sure what the verse stands for but if more bible verses appeared on a body like this I would have done better in Sunday school....smile.   Enjoy!

Life on Discovery Channel is the new Mutual of Omaha

The Discovery Channels Life is apart of my Sunday night ritual. Life is a new ultra saturated, high drama, high definition and narrated by media mogul celebrity,  Oprah Winfrey.  Yes Oprah is not only showing us how to live our lives better she is now the official narrator of the planet earth. 

Life allows us to see some of the most largest and fearsome creatures on land while simultaneously having a front row seat on the hunting strategy of Dolphins, this is not Flipper.  Dolphins are gangster in the ocean world.

Death and mating are two dominant themes of Life.  It is like watching natures version of Saw and the Spice Channel. Where else can you see the Bowery bird getting it's freak on.  The next time you complain about your mate being the minute man you need to watch this show because most of the males don't spend a lot of time in the saddle.

Now this where I see how many old heads are out there and can keep up with my comparison.  Life is the new Mutual of Omaha of its day. Remember guys,  Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom was part of the Sunday night family line up back in the day.  Mutual of Omaha with its 70's graphics and politically incorrect Native American branding gave the viewers an adventure every week.

But for all the high definition splendor Life is voyeuristic in its aesthetic.  Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom had a more intimate feeling. Marlin Perkins the star was like one of your Uncles taking you on a trip, minus the beer and curse words. 

Perkins always had a even tone and calm delivery no matter what was going on in the background.  His faithful sidekick, man servant and over all Safari bitch, Jim Fowler, was always doing the heavy and dangerous work. 

Perkins would drone on monotonously about how Jim was encroaching on a den of Grizzlies.  He talked about the danger as you saw poor Jim getting mauled and sodomized by the Papa Bear.  You will never see  this in "The Lion King."

Life is new and slick but I am nostalgic for the dated graphics and campy aesthetics of Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom or maybe I just miss Jim getting punked weekly...LOL.  Do you miss the old Sunday night shows?

Film Review: Clash of the Titans 3D

I took sometime for myself and went to see Clash of the Titans in 3D.  I was one of the few people who did not succumb to the spell of Avatar in 3D so my filters are still from the 70 and 80's B movie films where someone chunks a spear at you and the audience screams. 

I was a typical geek kid who loved comic books, science fiction and Saturday morning cartoons and movies.  I knew something was different as I got older because I became more enamored with the guys physiques than the fight scenes. 

I tell you when the Greek and Gladiator movies back in the day came out it was pay dirt.  Big, muscle bound, furry guys in nothing but a skirt and sandals, who knew this would be a precursor to popular culture in Gay Pride wear.

I was a big fan of the Greek mythology and films that explored the genre.  I was one of the few people who loved celebrity Lou Ferrigno's epic Hercules.  A lot of my TV and movie watching was gay aesthetically motivated. I watched the original Hulk so that he could Hulk out and end up in nothing but ripped shorts. I watched the Hitch Hiker series because the guy look good in his tight jeans.  Tarzan, Jason and the Argonauts, wrestling and the list goes on.

Back to the Clash of the Titans. I saw the original with a young, hunky,  Harry Hamlin as Perseus. The story was not much different.  The guys were not as hot and hunky as the old over the top beefy guys.  They should have just used guys like John Cena from WWE for the beef factor. John Cena as Perseus.  Hell John Cena as Medusa would have gotten my attention as long as they left him shirtless...LOL. 

The Clash of the Titans 3D was a big let down. There was nothing new in the story. A lot of the sweet nostalgia was lost in this new adaptation.  The guy that played Perseus was OK. Giving the soldiers cornrows and locs was an interesting twist. The animation was OK and the 3D was pretty non-existent.

Maybe it was just me but the glowing effect they used when you saw the Gods in Mount Olympus is the same one Rupaul uses on his show Rupauls Drag Race. You ever notice how they have Ms. Thing in some kind of glow filter right next to mere mortals?

I saw more 3D effects in the title sequence than the movie.  I was enamored with the new modern Roy Orbison 3D glasses they give you now instead of the paper plastic red specs back in the day.

If you are looking for an epic battle of scantily clad muscle guys, save your money, stay home and watch WWE.  You will not get any thrills from Clash of the Titans 3D.

Hot Guy of the Week: Steph Jones

Hey guys it is that time again for the Hot Guy of the Week.This weeks hot guy is Steph Jones.

I was initially drawn to this guy because of the cool hair and obvious good looks.

But I later found out that he is from my hometown of Houston, TX and even grew up in one of my old neighborhoods. He graduated from high school at 17 and immediately moved to Los Angeles, CA.

He was only in LA for a few months before getting into modeling on the suggestion of a co-worker. He landed several national campaigns including The Gap, Old Navy and Reebok. 

He was in Paris when he found himself in trouble by hanging with the wrong crowd that resulted in him having to spend sometime in prison. 

I know, prison trade on top of everything else,even hotter.

He used the time to his benefit and worked on his music and songwriting.

He has a story behind the great looks and physique.

Ask Professor Locs: Money and Hair

Hi guys it has been crazy busy but you know I like taking time to catch up with my readers and what is on their minds.  So here are some questions from the Ask Me Anything section of the Professor Locs site.

Question: Why is it family members always borrow money and promise to pay it back on the 3rd? Then when the 3rd of the month comes, you can't find them. Now I'm waiting for them to get their tax return to see what kind of excuse they got then.

Answer: I know exactly what you are talking about.  Family and friends can drive you crazy.  People ask Hey, you're from Texas why do you live so far away from your family.  I love my family but they are crazy and I have found that living at least a time zone away works best for me...lol. 

A general rule of thumb is to only lend the amount of money that you can depart with comfortably.  I like to use the crack head rule.  When you are on the street and you get hit up by a nice crack head for some money and you put out.  You really don't expect to go to that same corner and get a return on your investment a week later do you?  Apply the same principle to relatives and you will save yourself a lot of worry and drama.

Question: What do you think of white people co-opting traditionally black hairstyles?

Answer:  The nature of the mainstream is to co-opt culture from marginalized communities.  Couture fashion is driven by what is hot and trendy in the streets.  Hair styles are no different.  We have seen a history of this from musicians covering Black music and styles.  Many of the current hot artist of all colors studied at the Michael Jackson school of Pop Art, including Usher and Justin Timberlake. 

Some say the highest form of flattery or praise is imitation.  Let's face it Black culture is cool, exciting, original and hip, who would not want to have some of that...smile. I talk about the obsession of Black hair in my post "I Brake for White Women". 

I have locks and often see a white brother or sister with locks.  They always look at me a little strange as if I am going to berate them for wearing their hair like mine.  I have no problem if that is how you want to rep yourself.

Chris Rock recently did a very funny film Good Hair where regular folks along with celebrities discuss the unique and complicated world of Black hair.

The only problem I have is when people confuse cultural signifiers with cultural authenticity.  Wearing a "Black" hairstyle does not make you Black just like perming your hair or wearing weaves makes you European. 

But beware those folks who look ethnic and wear Black hair and "urban" style, you have to take it all.  The bad credit, racial profiling, diabetes, high blood pressure, student loans, lower wages and being followed in the store...lol.
