Shortly after much of the nation began to come to grips with the unthinkable shooting and tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Conneticut the gunman was identifed as Ryan Lanza, shown below as police escorted him for questioning.
But after further investigation Ryan Lanza of Hoboken, NJ was at work in New York City almost 60 miles away when the shooting took place.
Adam Lanza, shown to the left, started that morning by killing his mother Nancy, drove her car to Sandy Hooks Elementary where he was armed with two handguns and a semi-automatic rifle. Adam then shot and killed 20 innocent children and finally turned his gun on himself.
Ryan Lanza was very freaked out when he saw his name in the news and what people begin to put on his Facebook page so he turned to social media in an attempt to tell the truth, "IT WASN'T ME I WAS AT WORK IT WASN'T ME," said one message. Then, two
minutes later: "I'm on the bus home now it wasn't me." Finally, three
minutes after that, he posted an obscenity and repeated, "it wasn't me."
The shooting at this elementary school in this sleepy rural small town is beleived to be the worst mass killing at an elementary school in our nations history.
This tragedy brings up two major issues we need to address in our country and that is mental health and gun control. I am from Texas which is a gun loving state but it is amazing that you have to take a test to get a drivers license but in many states purchasing a gun is a pretty simple process.
I am not talking about taking away your right to own a gun but there should be some screening process to see if you are in your right mind and not crazy before we just hand over lethal weapons.
And surely there must have been signs that this young man was deeply disturbed. People just don't wake up one morning and think I am going to commit mass murder, there has to be a process that leads up to such acts. We may never know.
We will continue to pray for the families of everyone involved in this senseless and unthinkable act of violence.
I'm in shock and so saddened by this! I just can't bare to think about what lies ahead if we don't start taking head to the warning and the signs that God is showing us.
