Illinois could be the next state in line to legalize gay marriage as soon as next week.
You can check out a list of states that do legalize gay marriage on www.statesthatallowgaymarriage.com.
Senate Democats wanted to move the gay-marriage bill as a standalone during the first session but faced some procedural challenges that slowed their efforts. According to the Windy City Times they will use a new tactic by attaching the legislation to a bill dealing with car rentals that will be up for vote.
Their efforts even got some help from President Obama who signaled his support over the holidays. "Were the President still in the Illinois State Legislature, he would support this measure that would treat all Illinois couples equally," a spokesman told the Chicago Sun-Times last week.
This is good news but if we really want to see some change take place we need for at least one southern state to get with the program. North Carolina is in the Bible belt so I'm not sure we will see folks have a change of heart and all of a sudden become progressive in their thinking. Many members of the religious community have been very much against gay marriage.
Anway we celebrate the victory for our gay brothers and sisters in the LGBT communities who live in more open minded areas of the country.
"With liberty and justice for all" :)
