I don't know what is in the water these days.
Did I miss the "Let's be obnoxious to black folks" week on my calendar?
We got people slapping black babies on airlines and now a hospital actually honored the request of a white patient who did not want their child handled by black nurses. WTH?
Tonya Battle says that the hospital she is employed by, the Hurley Medical Center in Michigan, actually honored some fools request to only have their newborn handled by white nurses. There was an actual note posted in the nursery that read, "No African Americans to take care of baby” was attached the assignment clipboard.
Battle, who is black, says that she was reassigned from the neonatal intenstive care unit after the white father made the request. Battle has subsequently launched a lawsuit saying that the hospital violated her rights under the 14th amendment.
The Inquisitr reports:
Although the no African American nurses sign was ultimately removed, Battle claims that she and other African American staffers were prevented from caring for the child for about a month. Statements in the lawsuit maintain that the baby’s dad rolled up his sleeve and revealed a tattoo. The dad’s tattoo alleged appeared to be a “swastika of some kind.”
This is a political, legal and racial hot mess. Some folks will try you because they think you will not come for them.
My no non-sense little sister Nikki is a nurse and I hate to think what she would do if she observed some foolishness like this at work.
Sometimes you have to show up and show out!
I would leave a note that said "Not only have I handled your child, I have bathed your child, changed your child's diaper, and also breast fed him, You are welcome!"
Bahaha at the breastfeed comment. This is some foolishness, so what if the surgeon was black then what.? When I saw that swastika, I would said, " I have a tattoo like that too." Or in the room I would've made a sign that said no stupid fathers allowed in this room or hospital.
