I grew up with your traditional Halloween costumes most of which you
purchased from Kmart if they were not homemade. You pretty much had a
choice of your traditional choices including, a witch, werewolf, vampire,
Frankenstein or the superhero of the day like Superman.
But none of them comes close to being as scary as some fools thinking a Trayvon Martin costume would be an appropriate theme for Halloween or any other day.
Two knuckle heads thought it would be cute to show up as Zimmerman and Trayvon for a Halloween party with the dude playing Trayvon sporting black face as well.
The Zimmerman costume consisted of a simple black T-shirt with “Neighborhood Watch” in white lettering, while "Trayvon's" more racist costume included blackface and a hoodie with a bloody bullet wound. When the hostess of the party posted the photo on her Facebook page, she used the caption, “Happy Halloween from Zimmerman & Trayvon.”
It is despicable and disgraceful that Trayvon Martin continues to be mocked and disrespected even in death. It is also disgusting that his family who I am sure will never get over the loss of their son continues to have to deal with ignorant and insensitive folks.
This only proves what I have said continuously that a black man's life is
not worth respect and is reduced to comedic joke. This only reinforces
the notion that young black men are dispensable and are not valued members of
our society and certainly do not deserve to be respected when murdered in
their own neighborhoods by so called authority figures put into place to
protect the general public.
The only thing scarier than these idiots and their poor judgment is the fact that there are folks who find these costumes entertaining and funny.
This is a sad commentary on how insensitive some people are in our society.
